Sheridan "Gus" Danforth (1938-2022)

Under the comforting layer of her Dallas Cowboys blanket, Sheridan “Gus” Danforth died peacefully in New London, New Hampshire on June 20, 2022. Born in Austin, Texas on November 1, 1938, Sheridan was 83 colorful, fun-loving years old. She was married for 54 years to Peter Danforth, who predeceased her in 2011, and lived in her beloved New London, New Hampshire for the final 40 years of her life.

Sheridan had a lively and generous spirit, delighting in giving people her chocolate bundt cake on any occasion or no occasion at all. She touched innumerable lives within the New London community, and loved, deeply, through service to others. Her formal volunteer work included helping in a variety of capacities at Woodcrest, New London Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Colby Sawyer College, and COA of New London. Informally, too, her generous heart and delight in others led her to volunteer her time and support wherever it was needed by those she loved.

Sheridan adored her family. She was the Dallas Cowboys #1 fan. She loved the many dogs she had throughout her life, perhaps especially her most recent companion, Lily. She loved the sunrises over Mount Kearsarge, the three-mile loop around Kezar Lake, and the Friday night bandstand concerts on the green in the summertime.

Sheridan Danforth is survived by David and Debbie Danforth, Mark and Katie Danforth, Laura Danforth and Paula Chu, and Kim Danforth. She had seven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren – with one more granddaughter who will join the world and the Danforth family in the weeks ahead. The family wishes to make loving mention of Casey Biuso and her family, who were extraordinarily loving and attentive to Gus, particularly during her years of living at Woodcrest Village.

We will miss Gus/Mom/Sheridan forever, and will think of her whenever we see the moon – or are blessed by a blue blue blue blue sky.

The Danforth family will be holding a Celebration of Life for Sheridan at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 23rd at The First Baptist Church, 461 Main Street in New London. All are welcome and will have an opportunity to share a memory or story. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Sheridan’s name at The First Baptist Church or The Barn Playhouse.
